Moisture content gets most of the attention in coconut sugar quality discussions, but the packaging format you specify matters just as much for how the product performs after it clears customs — and buyers often default to whatever format they've seen elsewhere without checking whether it actually suits their destination climate and downstream handling.
The main format options
- 25 kg kraft bag with PE liner — the standard export format, suited to most climates when the liner is properly heat-sealed; the most economical option for buyers who will repackage on arrival
- 25 kg foil-lined or vacuum-sealed bag — a moisture-barrier upgrade over standard PE liner, worth the added per-unit cost for humid-climate destinations or long transit windows where standard packaging shows higher clumping risk
- 1 MT jumbo bag (bulk bag) — for buyers with their own bulk-handling and storage infrastructure who don't need individually palletized 25kg units; lowest per-kg packaging cost but requires bulk unloading capability on the receiving end
- Retail-ready pouch or block-form box — for private-label and retail-direct orders (see our private-label guide for the full process), produced to order rather than drawn from standing stock
Matching format to destination climate
Standard PE-liner kraft bags perform fine for most Middle East and temperate European destinations. For tropical or high-humidity destinations, or any shipment with an unusually long transit window, the foil-lined or vacuum-sealed upgrade meaningfully reduces clumping risk — the price difference is small relative to the cost of a rejected or discounted container on arrival.
Handling capability on your end matters too
Jumbo bags are the cheapest per-kg option, but only make sense if your facility has bulk-handling equipment to unload and repackage or process from a 1 MT bag. Buyers who plan to distribute in smaller retail or foodservice units are usually better served by 25kg bags even at a slightly higher per-kg cost, since it avoids an extra repackaging step on arrival.
What to specify in your purchase order
- Exact format — "25kg kraft bag, foil-lined" rather than assuming a default, since format changes both cost and lead time
- Palletization requirements if applicable — some destination ports and warehouses require palletized loads for customs clearance or forklift handling
- Desiccant inclusion for long-transit shipments in any bag format
